A little preparation can help your pet feel comfortable and look their best. If needed, have them groomed before the session, and if your pet has lots of energy, some exercise beforehand can help them settle in.

Please bring a collar rather than a harness, plenty of their favorite treats, a favorite toy or two, and water with a bowl. For longer haired pets, bring a brush for quick touch ups during the session. If your dog tends to have watery eyes, especially short nosed breeds, bringing wipes is helpful so we can keep their face clean throughout the session.

There’s no need to practice poses or expect perfect behavior. We’ll work with your pet’s personality and energy level on the day.

That’s completely okay. Your pet doesn’t need to sit perfectly or follow commands for us to create great photographs.

If they have lots of energy, I may have you walk or play with them while I step back and photograph from a distance. Those moments often lead to some of my favorite images, from fun action shots to natural interactions between you and your pet.

We’ll work with your pet rather than against them and let their personality guide the session.

Not at all. Your pet can stay on leash for the entire session. Their safety and comfort always come first.

We’ll keep things moving with walks, play, and breaks rather than expecting your pet to stand around and pose. If your pet needs more freedom to move, I may suggest bringing a long leash so they can run, explore, and play while still staying safely connected to you.

This works especially well for sessions at the beach or other open locations where we want to capture movement and action. What matters most is that your pet feels comfortable and we work with what is right for them.

Absolutely, and you don’t have to feel comfortable posing for the camera. We can create a mix of more traditional portraits of you and your pet together along with natural, candid moments.

You might be walking together, playing, or simply spending time with each other. Sometimes I’ll photograph just your legs beside your pet, have you face away from the camera while your pet looks toward me, or capture the little moments that happen naturally between you.

Whether you want a beautiful portrait together or prefer to stay a little more behind the scenes, there are plenty of ways to include the connection you share without anything feeling forced.

The location depends partly on the session you choose. If you book a Rockland Session and are traveling here, we’ll find a location that works beautifully for you and your pet, with plenty of outdoor places to choose from.

For other sessions, I’ll usually start by asking if you and your pet already have a favorite place. It might be a beach, a trail, your own backyard, or somewhere you simply enjoy spending time together. I can also come to your home, and a studio session is an option when needed.

If you don’t have a location in mind, that’s completely fine. I’ll help you find one that suits your pet, the kind of photographs you’d like, and the session you’ve chosen.

I’ll keep an eye on the weather and stay in touch with you as your session gets closer. If rain or other conditions look like they could make the session uncomfortable, we can reschedule.

That said, we don’t always need perfect weather. Fog, snow, and even a light drizzle can create beautiful photographs, so we’ll make the decision together based on the conditions and what feels right for you and your pet.

The number of digital images included depends on the session you choose. The Rockland Session includes 2 digital images, and the Midcoast Adventure includes 10.

After your session, you’ll receive an online proof gallery where you can choose your included favorites. If you fall in love with more, you’ll have the option to purchase additional images.

The Vacationland Adventure includes the complete gallery of final edited images, usually around 30 to 50 photographs.

Yes. You can order professionally printed products from your session, including prints, framed artwork, cards, photo books, and more.

If you’re interested in artwork, I’ll ask what you have in mind and help narrow down the options so choosing doesn’t feel overwhelming. Once you know what you’d like, your products can be ordered directly through your online gallery.

That’s okay. I’ll give your pet the time and space they need to get comfortable. Instead of approaching them, I let them come to me when they’re ready.

I’ll usually have a treat waiting and give them a chance to get familiar with me and my camera. I’ll even let them hear the camera shutter before we start so the sound isn’t a surprise.

If your pet is more comfortable with some distance, I can photograph from farther away and give them plenty of space. There’s no rush. We’ll start when your pet is comfortable and work at their pace.

Absolutely. While you’ll see plenty of dogs in my portfolio, I photograph cats, horses, and other pets too. Every animal has a different personality, so the session is adjusted to what makes them most comfortable.
